Kiezlabor Open Call 2026

You think the Kiezlabor should come to your neighborhood next year? With this Open Call, we are addressing the people who work in Berlin neighborhoods on a daily basis or are active on a voluntary basis, i.e. design, manage, plan and revitalize the neighborhood, e.g. in:   

• of a Berlin administration 
• a civil society initiative or neighbourhood initiative 
• a neighbourhood management 
• an urban planning office  
• of a college, university, library 
• of a municipal housing association 
• or similar

We are looking for Berlin neighborhoods… 

• in which an urban transformation process is imminent or underway, for example in the context of an urban planning project or a public participation process.
• in which conflicts, wishes, problems, concerns and goals have not yet found a form, no hearing.    

With the Kiezlabor , we offer… 

• a lively and proven interface between administration and civil society.
• Expertise in participatory processes, innovative approaches and digital and analogue tools that enables urban design for a broad group of people.
• a temporary meeting place in the urban space in the form of a shipping container converted into a “Tiny House”.

Expiration:  

• You can participate in the Open Call until November 30, 2025 . We will get back to you afterwards.   
• Depending on the structure of the project, we consult together on a good approach and goals for a Kiezlabor assignment. Preparatory half-day pop-up neighbourhood laboratory assignments without the container are also conceivable.   
• The Kiezlabor locations themselves will be implemented between May and October.

About the Kiezlabor

The Kiezlabor is  Berlin’s mobile city laboratory for digital transformation and has been going since Summer 2023 on a neighborhood tour through the capital. It is a future workshop and workshop, stage and interactive exhibition, network meeting and neighbourhood meeting place at the same time. The Kiezlabor is a  Measure of the Smart City and Digital Strategy Gemeinsam Digital: Berlin and will be Order of the Senate Chancellery Berlin implemented by CityLAB Berlin .
